CrossFit Open Workout 18.5 – Annie Thorisdottir
Annie Mist, more commonly known as Annie Thorisdottir, is the first woman to become the fittest woman on earth twice. Only one other woman has achieve that, her countrywoman Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir. Annie was born in 1989 and will turn 28 years old this year. Her CrossFit career started in 2009 at the third CrossFit Games, before the Open and Regionals had even started. She had only been doing CrossFit for a month but performed exceptionally well, despite not knowing how to do a muscle up. Annie completed her first muscle up on the competition floor.
She has been to the CrossFit Games 8 times and made it to the podium 4 times.
Annie is co-owner and is coaching at CrossFit Reykjavík in Iceland, with her long time boyfriend and Crossfitter, Frederik Ægidius. Annie has had a few setbacks in her sporting career. She had to withdraw from everything in 2012 after getting badly injured after trying to deadlift too much weight. She was afraid that she would never walk again.
Annie came back stronger but then had heat stroke in the middle of the 2015 CrossFit Games and finished in 38th place. Annie won’t give up that easily though and is pushing hard to go the Games for the 9th time this year. The first step for her, and anyone else is to tackle the Open, the final step being CrossFit Open Workout 18.5.
By winning the CrossFit Games, Annie became a huge role models for Icelandic girls to try CrossFit. It is thanks to her that all the dóttirs are doing CrossFit.
